Hi, My name is Mia!

It’s very nice to meet you all, and I’d love to introduce myself. I moved to the U.S. in 2017 from Korea, lived for 3 years in San Francisco, and another 4 years in Vancouver, Washington. In Korea, I studied art and media-interaction design during both my undergraduate and graduate programs, focusing on children’s interactive experiences in museums. It has always been fulfilling to see children being children (sometimes free and a little naughty, lol), and watching their eyes sparkle when they try and learn new things.

The Learning Garage is, in many ways, my lifelong dream, to create a space where kids always want to come, feel comfortable creating things, whether they succeed or make mistakes, and see their own possibilities.

I’ve always thought that every fun project starts in the garage. It was almost like a fantasy or part of the American Dream to me, since we don’t have the concept of a garage in Korea.

At The Learning Garage, we strive to provide programs that bring out everyone’s inner creativity, allowing them to experience the endless joy of learning. Being creative isn’t always easy at first, but once it becomes a habit, you won’t want to stop thinking and practicing to improve your skills. Eventually, you’ll become a creator rather than just a consumer. It would be lovely if The Learning Garage could help everyone at the very beginning of their creative journey.

Like any beginning, our start may not be perfectly organized or structured, but we will do our best to improve every day.
Please be patient and watch us grow!
